The Cocktail Challenge

The competition is open to professional bartenders over the age of 21 whom are currently working at a bar. Deadline to enter is Dec. 31st, 2015.

Competition Overview

L’Esprit de Damoiseau will be comprised of two parts. (1) Prepare your submitted cocktail for the judges while (2) telling a story that ties your Damoiseau creation to the heritage and spirit of Guadeloupe. Competitors will be judged on taste, aroma, and visual presentation along with originality. Each presentation will be limited to 5 minutes for set up and 5 minutes to present. The key conceptual points to deliver in your cocktail and its presentation are:

  • Is the rhum used effectively as an asset for the cocktail
  • Does the cocktail convey the heritage and attitude of Damoiseau
  • Relevance to the spirit of the French Caribbean
  • Plausibility within your cocktail program
  • Overall all creativity and execution

Location Venue

Competition will be held at 2pm on January 13th, at The Last Word in San Antonio, TX. Basic mixers such as citrus, juices, simple syrup and natural sugarcane syrup will be provided. You will be responsible for all other ingredients. You will have to make 2 cocktails – one for pictures and one for the judges. Glassware will be available but we suggest you bring your own.

Cocktail Entry Rules

  • You must use at least 1 oz. total of one or more of the following spirits
    1. Damoiseau Cane Rhum (80 Proof)
    2. Damoiseau Rhum Blanc (110 Proof)
    3. Damoiseau VSOP
    4. Damoiseau XO
  • Cocktail must be your own creation
  • Cocktail may use up to 7 ingredients (including garnish) and may include homemade bitters, syrups, tinctures, etc.
  • Use of any other RUM brands is not permitted
  • Use of any other spirit is permitted
  • Recipes shall be expressed in ounces, drops and dashes

Grand Prize

The competitor with the highest overall score will win a trip to Guadeloupe and personally experience the spirit of the French Caribbean. Dates TBD, but will be in March or April of 2016.
